It is a well known fact that “prevention is better than cure”.
Research all over the world has concluded that it is more economical to invest in preventive healthcare rather than to think of a hospital only in times of distress. More than the cost, it is about living a stress-free life without having to worry about our health.
At Apollo Bramwell Hospital’s Health & Wellness Centre (HWC), we focus on the concept of well-being and healthy living through preventive health check packages.
The HWC has the unique distinction of redefining wellness and preventive healthcare services. We offer the most comprehensive health prevention/screening programme in Mauritius.
Our preventive health check packages have been customized to meet the needs of different age groups. They also come with an added convenience: all the tests are carried out under one roof. Each package consists of a series of tests and investigations which can both screen for the presence of disease and to identify the cause of ongoing ailments. Once the health check is completed, treatment can begin immediately without any delay.
“At Apollo Bramwell Hospital Health & Wellness Centre, we believe that health is not simply the absence of sickness. Good health brings happiness because a healthy person is a happy person.”
Does a one-time check-up help?
Completing a health check at any time is always helpful. However, regular check-ups are recommended as disease can develop at any stage in life. Annual health checks offer an opportunity to discuss any health matters with a doctor, review any problems that were detected in the previous health checks and reassure you on your health.
General Information
The Health & Wellness Centre is open from 07:30 to 16:30 from Monday to Friday and from 07:30 to 12:00 on Saturday.
An appointment is required prior to your visit. Please contact us on (230) 605-1000 and ask for the Health & Wellness Centre. A HWC representative will book your appointment and answer any question that you may have.
As part of our package, a complimentary breakfast is included in all the Preventive Health Check Packages.
The following information is meant as a guide before your actual check-up.
Please contact the Health & Wellness Centre for more detailed information.
Health Check Information
You are advised to inform the HWC front desk if you have any history of diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, or any other medical conditions. All packages, except the Child Health Check, require fasting. You are required to fast for 12 hours prior to your appointment and abstain from food, alcohol, cigarettes/tobacco and all fluids except plain water.
On the day of your appointment you are required to take all of your medications in the morning as usual except for diabetes medications. You will be required to bring the following with you:
• all of your medications and previous medical records.
• a urine and stool sample (depends on the health package chosen) in the provided containers as specified (sterile containers can be collected in advance from the HWC front desk); alternatively you can provide samples on the same day.
Dress code
It may be more convenient to wear a two-piece outfit and comfortable footwear as you will be required to frequently change your clothes while undergoing the various tests. Packages which include Ultrasound Screening of the whole abdomen require a full bladder and as such you will be requested to drink plenty of water upon arrival.
Information for Women
Pregnant women or those suspecting pregnancy are advised to inform the HWC front desk as X-rays and mammography are contraindicated. Avoid the use of deodorants, perfumes or talc as this may interfere with certain tests. Female patients are requested to schedule their health check appointments when not menstruating (or one week after).
Information for TMT (Treadmill Test)
Continue with all your medications as usual prior to the test. If you have diabetes and are taking oral tablets for your diabetes, do not take these medications before the TMT; you will be able to take these medications with your breakfast at the hospital.
• Refrain from any caffeine or nicotine two hours prior to the test; if you need to eat before the TMT, a light snack is advised.
• Please wear a two-piece outfit and comfortable footwear (sports shoes are recommended).
• Do not apply talc powder or wear neck chains as this may interfere with the test.
• If you are suffering from any chest pain or breathing difficulty, please notify the nurse in advance.
